The mission of Bilal Islamic Center shall be, among other things, to develop and maintain a vibrant, inclusive, and charitable Islamic Center that provides a comprehensive range of religious and social programs to residents of Okai Kwei North Municipality and beyond.
The vision of Bilal Islamic Center is to operate a facility serving the Muslim community of Abeka Lapaz in particular while we promote the connectivity with Muslims located in the Greater Accra Region and Ghana to be specific.
The narrative of BILAL ISLAMIC CENTER formerly known as BILAL MOSQUE started with Mallam Musah Dramani Daru of blessed memory, the owner of Plot No. B315/ 30 situated on the 17 Arpeggio Street GA-427-6665, at Abeka Lapaz. Mallam Musah’s original wish was to build a Mosque on this piece of land. This noble wish could not materialize during his lifetime as he was taken ill and passed on later.
Prior to his death, he admonished his children to honor his heart’s desire to donate the land and build a Mosque on it as an infinite charity. However, in keeping with his wish the children released the proposed portion of the plot to the community to build the Mosque. The conception to construct the Mosque in honor of the late Mallam Musah was revived by Mallam Tanko Jibrilla Musa and facilitated by Alhaji Shafiu Aguda, Mallam Alhassan Mohamed of blessed memory of Islamic Council for Development & Humanitarian Services of Ghana and Mallam Amidu Ali.
The construction work started in July 1999, and lasted for six months with the support from AL-NOORI Organization of Kuwait under the supervision of Islamic Council for Development & Humanitarian Service Ghana and was named BILAL MOSQUE, which was officially inaugurated by the National Chief Imam of Ghana Sheikh Dr. Osamanu Nuhu Sharubutu on the 25th May 2000. It is worthy to note that local efforts and contributions from well-wishers Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians, have helped immensely towards what is the Islamic Center today.
May Allah reward them in millions and compensate them with His mercy. Given financial constraints and cash flow problems, the Management looks forward to more meaningful assistance from Islamic Organizations and embassies to accomplish the task entrusted to it by Mallam Musah Dramani Daru of blessed memory. The Mosque has become a place of worship by Muslims (men and women) who congregate to perform their five daily prayers and weekly Jumuah Prayers. It also served as an Institution for teaching Muslim children the rudiments of the Holy Qur’an and Islamic principles.
Over the years, the Mosque has seen a tremendous increase in number of worshipers from Lapaz community population and foreign students. As a step forward, an Executive Committee was set up to manage the Mosque and work towards its expansion. Subsequently, sub-committees were formed. Namely:
